Mu

Mu was the Second Tsuchikage and leader of Iwagakure during his lifetime.

Background

Mu was born many years before the start of the series and became the Second Tsuchikage of Iwagakure after the founding of the village. He and his pupil, Onoki, met with Madara Uchiha shortly after Iwagakure had formed an alliance with Konohagakure and engaged him in battle after he told them that his village was to remain the dominant power and that theirs should obey any orders given, but they were defeated by the Uchiha leader easily. During his lifetime, Mu had a mutual enmity with the Second Mizukage and the two men eventually killed each other in their last confrontation.

Series Involvement

Mu was revived by Kabuto Yakushi as a military weapon alongside his rival, the Third Raikage, and the Fourth Kazekage. After he was detected by Gaara through the latter's sensory sand, Kabuto had Mu summon the revived Kage to the battlefield. Announcing to his fellow Kage that they were revived by the Impure World Reincarnation, Mu told the Second Mizukage that he had killed him long ago when the latter becane confused and admitted he died then too when the Second remembered and pointed that out, before explaining the effects of Impure World Reincarnation. As they pursued Gaara's Fourth Division, Mu agreed with his rival's digusted remark about having to fight against ninja from his own village and that they should teach the one who revived them a lesson when they can. After Gaara and Onoki arrived, Mu broke free from Gaara's sand and greeted his old student when he saw him. He, under Kabuto's control, and Onoki then engaged in battle with their Dust Release and a large portion of the battle was destroyed by the converging techniques. Mu then expressed surprised after learning the Allied Shinobi Forces had been formed and that Onoki had joined it and told his student devious tactics to ensure the dominance of Iwagakure, shocking him and offending the other revived Kage. He then isolated himself and disappeared from view, telling Onoki to call Gaara for help as his age had caught up with him. Mu then tried to sneak attack Onoki, but the latter managed to evade the attack with Gaara's warning, but threw out his back. Mu then tried to use his Dust Release on the two, but was attacked from behind by Naruto Uzumaki. He managed to dodge it, but was struck nonetheless by the Naruto's Planetary Rasengan when the latter extended a chakra arm from him tailed beast cloak. Mu was repelled through a rock structure and into the ground where he was weighed down by Onoki's Earth Release: Added Weight Rock Technique and began to tell his pupil a warning as Gaara sealed him.

It was later revealed that Mu had split off half his power when Naruto struck him and that he was not completely sealed, but couldn't get back the sealed half of his power. Mu was then forced to use the Summoning Technique by Kabuto Yakushi and was shocked to see Madara Uchiha step out of the coffin he summoned. Impressed that their summoner had been willingly to revive the latter, Mu told Madara he had been revived by the Impure World Reincarnation, which shocked the latter. The two confronted the Fourth Division and Mu informed Madara of the Allied Shinobi Forces when he saw the headbands of the division's shinobi. When asked who the user of the Impure World Reincarnation was, Mu was taken over by Kabuto, who explained everything to Madara. Mu was repelled when the five Kage joined together against Madara and forced to flee. After the release of Impure World Reincarnation, Mu regained his consciousness, but was shocked when he was engulfed in light and exploded, sending his soul back into the afterlife along with most of the other revived ninja. His soul was later summoned by the Sage of Six paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, along with those of many other previous Kage to work together with the undead Hokage to teleport into and back from his mother, Kaguya's dimension with Team Seven and the dying Madara Uchiha. After Hashirama Senju and Madara have a brief talk before the latter dies, Mu and the other previous Kage, including the Hokage, are sent back into the afterlife by Hagoromo.

Personality

Mu was very calm and level-headed and cared very much for his village and its well-being, though at the same time he was very devious about it, telling his pupil, Onoki, to take advantage of the disbandment of the Allied Shinobi Force's to ensure the dominance of their village. This selfish and underhanded side of his personality is what caused his rival to hate him to such an extent. He had a mutual deep hatred for the Second Mizukage, which he valued more than his own life, shown when the two killed each other in their last fight. The Third Raikage also mentioned he would like to fight them both after their revival, implying he was also an enemy of Mu. Despite this, however, Mu showed much respect for his rival and the other Kage, implying no ill will for the former or the latter for what they did.

Abilities

As the Second Tsuchikage, Mu was an immensely powerful ninja, one of the two able to use a kekkei tota, along with his student, Onoki. He used three chakra natures at once to form Dust Release and could use it on equal level wth Onoki, who he was able to fight against and even after his revival during the Fourth Shinobi World War. The Dust Release allowed Mu to trap and disintegrate his enemies on a molecular level. The fact that he was able to kill his rival, the Second Mizukage, despite not being able to counter his Steaming Danger Tyranny and albeit at the cost of his life, stands as a large testiment to his abilities. Mu could turn himself invisible and was nearly undetectable to sensing when he did so. He could also fly, just like all the other Tsuchikage. Mu also appeared to have a good analytical ability as, though he wasn't able to figure out how to counter it, he was able to figure out the mechanisms and effects of his rival's Steaming Danger Tyranny and apparently pass them on to Onoki after his revival, as when the Second heard Onoki explain his technique to the Fourth Division, he speculated Mu told him.
